A very quite Men's fashion week and very skinny Prada

Milan is one of my favourite cities, and I never miss the opportunity to swing by during Fashion Week, even if it’s Men’s. Well, there’s always Prada, and even though I don’t really do menswear styling, I am always excited to see what Signora and Raf have to say.

For next summer, they are looking for clarity—that is the word they used most when talking about the collection. It was obvious in the design of the set: all glass, with fluorescent light shining through the floorboards. The clothes were deceptively simple too, all centred around the idea of jeans, the most ubiquitous and uncomplicated piece of clothing, but done well.

Ironically, Signora Prada has admitted to never having worn them, not even when she was young (we all know the stories of wearing Yves Saint Laurent going to student protests), and somehow I believe her.

Far from wearing jeans, Signora Prada came out in a stunning faille coat, which I believe is a custom version of this one

In other news, Milan was boiling hot, so the looks had to be managed in proportion to the amount of sweating they—and I—could withstand. Hence the minimal layering (I’m still admiring how Marta does her high-summer layering) and the occasional mini.

LOOKS

Vintage Balenciaga SS08 jacket, Destree satin trousers, Jil Sander flats (nice pointy options from Ayede and Jimmy Choo)
Prada satin bomber (love this The Row hoodie as an alt, and it’s on sale; this one from Nanushka is great, and this one by Aaron Esh is a steal!), Bottega Veneta skirt, Phoebe Philo shoes (go for a full size smaller, 37 in stock) (Reformation alt) and bag
Valentino jumpsuit (cute alt from Mango or a set in a similar vibe from Reformation), Phoebe Philo shoes and bag, Julietta necklace (Lizzie Fortunato alt)
Chanel top (Toteme alt and also this one in black) , Carven skirt (love this Rohe as an alt)
Prada shirt (similar vibe) and skirt (Posse and Massimo alts), Miu Miu sandals (love these Mango ones)
Tom Ford swimsuit (you can wear all of these as a top - Mango, Reformation one, two, three), Tibi shorts (Phoebe or COS)
Phoebe Philo dress (different but cool alt from Mango), Wandler bag, Bottega Veneta shoes (love these Massimo as an alt), Chanel necklace (Lizzie Fortunato alt - on sale)
Rika Studios shirt, Prada SS01 skirt (also love these - cars, a simple slip a la Signora and stripes) and shoes, Nackiye belt
Wandler bag
Phoebe Philo top and shoes (these Mango are a great alt), Tibi shorts (alt from The Frankie Shop), Wandler bag, Old Celine necklace and bracelet
Awake t-shirt (alt with maps)
Prada dress (I’m really thinking of this one for summer), Phoebe Philo shoes and bag
Phoebe Philo dress (alts from Posse and Staud), bag, shoes and earrings, Old Celine bracelets

I’m loving the new Massimo Dutti Studio collection - dress with a beautiful back detail, a midi dress that is cool for layering, pleated bubble hem skirt, cool linen set - top and trousers, sheer striped shirt and a cute mesh bag. They have also launched sale, and there are some nice bits still available - a linen shirt, a striped polo, a linen shirt with bib detail, a crochet polo shirt and a chic linen vest.

Also, Rohe has some really cool pieces with a layered effect - a top, another top, tailored trousers and a skirt.
